The valves open and close depending on the vehicle's drive mode, so it stays subdued at idle but unleashes the full fury of its thunderous V10 soundtrack when the vehicle is in sport mode. On the static sound test, Cobra Sport's system is 10db louder than stock at 4,000rpm in sports mode but only 2dB louder with valves shut in standard mode. With zero motorway drone, the new exhaust makes for a significant improvement without ruining the excellent everyday drivability that the R8 is famed for. A noticeable improvement in power distribution higher up the rev range was experienced during testing, thanks to the free-flowing performance exhaust setup. The OE system has been replaced with mandrel bent 3"/76.2mm bore T304 stainless steel pipework. The exhaust is manufactured in Sheffield utilising superior TIG welding techniques with beautifully bent pipework in place of the usual rear box to smooth gas flow, improve sound and maximise possible performance gains. The simplified pipework of the Venom system which removes the usual rear box has been designed to create an unrivalled deep sporty sound which will set the Corsa E VXR ahead of the crowd. Sound testing of the finished Venom exhaust system recorded an impressive 89.8dB (+11dB) on the sound meter during the 4000rpm circuit test with a sound track which becomes highly aggressive under load. As with the other Corsa E VXR exhaust systems in the Cobra Sport performance exhaust range, the Venom system is finished with a pair of 4" (101.6mm) tailpipes in a polished stainless steel or black ceramic coated finish which have been designed to subtly fit within the Corsa VXR's rear diffuser. This BMW M140i performance exhaust is made in 3.5"/88.9mm pipework and fits from the turbo to the centre exhaust to replace the standard catalyst. The sports cat exhaust option will enable you to pass a UK MOT emissions test or police road side checks. The de-cat sports exhaust option is sold for motorsport and off road use only and will NOT be able to pass a UK MOT emissions test or police road side checks. This exhaust however, is also available as a high flow sports catalyst version, which will pass these checks. All relevant fittings and gaskets are supplied. Press Release Designed and manufactured to uncompromising standard, Cobra Sport has matched performance improvements with re-defined sound to offer an exciting exhaust upgrade offering for M140i owners. The Cobra Sport research and development team quickly made the decision to base the new performance exhaust systems for the BMW M140i on 3" (76.2mm) T304 stainless steel pipework. This mandrel bent pipework allows the engine to breathe and contributes to the aim for the largest natural performance improvements. The new cat back exhausts offer a significant weight advantage with the Cobra Sport system weighing only 16.32kg giving a 21% decrease from the OEM weight of 20.75kg. The sound of the new Cobra Sport exhausts boast vastly improved tonal characteristics with the non resonated cat back exhaust offering a deeper more aggressive sound with an overall increase of +4.6dB to 86.8dB on the static 4,000rpm sound test. Within the cabin the redefined sound remains comfortable registering 81.6dB under full load. The new systems for the M140i are based around a cat back configuration with the option for either a resonated or louder non resonated centre section. These cat back systems can be matched with a choice of replacement front pipe options in the form of either a sports cat or a de-cat pipe to create the most dynamic sound track. Testing of the standard M140i revealed power figures of 327 whp and 367 lbft. Working in conjunction with one of our tuning partners AET Motorsport, we installed the Cobra Sport turbo back system (with de-cat) on the AET Motorsport development car and ran further power testing. With the Cobra Exhaust installed, the M140i recorded 349.2 whp and 389.9 lb-ft, an increase of 22 whp and 23 lb-ft with a fantastic sound track to match. Taking this one step further, AET installed Burger Motorsport JB4 and the EWG loom and ran dyno power runs on map 1,2 and 5. The best results were seen to be on Map 5 where the BMW M140i produced 423 whp and 453 lb-ft this means an overall increase of 96 whp and 86 lb-ft over the stock vehicle.
